When Kai noticed Nahla he was somewhat shocked and yet not at the same time. Shock as in that wasn’t what Kai expected Nahla to look like and yet not shocked for knowing who she was. He was somewhat speechless to begin with; that is until she initiated speaking. He laughed inside at the idea that he was intimidating. As Nahla introduced the place he was staying at he couldn’t help but wonder if they were going to try to kill him in his sleep. No one was really “friendly” here. But, then again he supposed that they were just paranoid.
“My name is Kai and I won’t cause you any problems…at least I think I won’t.” He was unsure of if there would by any trouble brewing in the future. He looked around the room for a few minutes before turning back to Nahla. His movements were pretty slow and calm for the most part. “So how did you end up working here?” asked Kai. He couldn’t help it; he was curious.
“What do you do here anyway?” It was a bit obvious but he had to ask anyway. He wanted to get to know people here so there won’t be the stranger barrier later on. He sat on the bed and took a dead breath. Today had been a long day for him and he knew it wouldn’t be over just yet.

Nahla looked at Kai with a questioning brow when he assured her that he would be no problem, well unsurely assured her, if that is possible. "Rightttt" She muttered sarcastically in reply. "Ok, Kai, well you break anything and you and my friend here are going to get very personal." She shot him a snide little smile. "Capish?"
She walks towards the door, giving Kai a passing glance. "That's a long story, Kai. Ask the Captain at dinner if you want the full story." She states, walking past him into the hall, from where she calls back in reply to his next question. "You'll find that out later too!" She yells back, "Dinner is at 1800 in the galley, don't be late!" With that, she leaves Kai alone again.
::At 1800, the bell for dinner is called and a clatter from the large room down the end of the hall can be heard. Inside, Kai will find a well decorated dinning room, with a long, finely polished table with enough seats to fit more then just a tiny crew. Atop it's reflective surface is an adornment of fine china, silver, and crystal all engraved with what appear to be a royal crest. Not the typical ware of a band of mercs or businessmen. On the walls hang oil paintings, with pictures of clipper-ships and other old sailing vessels upon the sea. One side of the room is a long window, beyond which shows the glum, gray marsh.::
"I hope our accommodations are to your pleasure, Kai." States Vincent from the head of the table, opposite the door Kai passed through. "Let me introduce the other members of our crew, there is Nivzad, Tresk, Rafee, and I know you've already met Miguel, Nahla, and myself."
At the table are other members of the ship's crew, to which Vincent motions too as he spoke. A large man, built strong, grizzled, and oil stained, he looks to have just emerged from an engine. Another is a scrawnier man, looks to be the youngest who has slight stubble and light features, dressed smartly. Bringing food and drink out from a side door, leading to the kitchen, is another man. He's exotic, dark skinned and featured. He's built like an islander, he wears not a shirt but is heavily tattooed, giving him the appearance that his chest is clothed. Finally, there are the three Kai has met. Miguel, the strange lemur creature who, in his lap, he holds a child's plush toy. Nahla, who shoots Kai a devilish glance, beside her he can see that shotgun leaning against her chair. And finally Vincent, who motions for Kai to take a seat opposite him.
"I hope you brought your appetite with you, today. Rafee here," motioning to the exotic looking man serving them. "Has prepared his signature dish, a goulash... best not ask what the meat is." He jokes. "A drink?" Vincent takes up a crystal decanter, filled with an amber colored liquid and pours himself a glass of it. "Sherry, you do drink don't you? We can get you something else."
As Vincent takes a sip from his glass, Rafee serves out the dishes of goulash, placing the maroon stew-like food before each person at the table. It smells spicy and hardy, there's also some sort of potato cake-patty nestled beside the hot goulash, topped with onion.
"I hope we didn't give you too much of a scare earlier, but we have our reasons." Vincent explains. "Our little ship here has been a focal point for way-ward travelers and sometimes, they don't always have the best of intentions."
"Kai was asking about how we ended up working here." Nahla chimes in, smiling to Kai as she spoke. "Want to enlighten him, captain?"
Vincent nods as he sips down his sherry, setting the crystal down beside his plate. "Do you? It's a very, very long story, Kai. You sure you want to hear the tale of... 'mercs' as you so called us?"

As Kai saw Nahla leave the area. He couldn’t help but wonder what he was doing here. Was it just a freak accident? Or was it planned? He found it hard to believe that out of all the places he ended up in a marsh and in that marsh found a few others lost as well. It was kind of hard to believe that it was an accident for this chain of events to occur. He laid on the bed and just stared up at the ceiling. He then closed his eyes to take a small nap. But, it was odd. He couldn’t go to sleep. No matter how tired he was he couldn’t go to sleep. When it was time to go eat dinner; he still hadn’t fallen asleep once.
He got up from bed and made his way to the dining area. As he walked into the hall he noticed how everything seemed so… extravagant. The paintings and other items were quite interesting to look at. It was hardly anything he expected from “businessmen”. When Vincent introduced the rest of the crew Kai started to try to memorize each member’s names. He wasn’t that great with names but it didn’t stop him from trying to get it right the first time.
When Rafee brought the food, Kai just stared at it for a moment. The food seemed good. But, it was odd it didn’t make him hungry. “A drink is fine with me,” answer Kai to Vincent. He didn’t want to disrespect him in any way. He took the cup and took a drink. But, right when the liquid touched his lips he knew something was wrong. “Is this water?” though Kai to himself. He smiled at Kai to show a sign of gratitude. He then looked at the stew like food and, using a spoon, took a few spoons full in his mouth. Again he couldn’t taste it. He couldn’t even tell whether the food was hot, warm, cool, or cold.
In fact come to think of it ever since he had woken up in the fields of grass he never ate anything. He never felt hungry and that was weeks ago. “The food is delicious,” lied Kai. He listened into Vincent’s explanation of how this ship had had a few problems from travels. “Of course I would love to hear your story,” answered Kai. He then took grabbed the cup and drank all of the drink slowly and without hesitation. He figured it may have just been water, colored water perhaps, after all because it taste like anything and he most certainly didn’t feel any different.

Vincent nods as he sets down his glass of Sherry then relaxes back in his seat, getting comfortable. "Then I'll give it to you short and sweet, else we'll be here long after the food and sherry wanes thin." He chuckles, amused with himself. "Kai, are you familiar with the former Empire of Gestra?" He doesn't wait for an answer before continuing. "A long time ago, Gastra was the most powerful empire known, ruled by an despotic emperor named Gestahl. That is where we all come from, this former empire. Its capital was called Vector, Miguel and I were from there. Nahla hails from Zozo, it was to the north-west." He motions to Nivzad. "Nivzad was born in South Figaro." He looks to Rafee. "Rafee comes to us from Mobliz." Lastly he looks to Tresk. "And Tresk is from Nikeah." He looks back to Natalia. "All those places at one time become lost to space-time from magical-radiation in thanks part to a creature named Loci and his kin; though long before that happened, the Empire was in steady decline due to a rogue general named Kefka."
"Bloody, freaky clown... thing." Miguel grumbles out, disgusted.
"Quite. Anyway." Vincent takes his glass from the rim, letting it dangle loosely in his fingers. "Vector became the focal point for numerous wars waged by power hungry individuals, battle after battle was fought right ontop of that sorry place. Attempts to rebuild proved futile as it would just be destroyed again as everything was just getting back to normal." He pauses for a moment to think. "First of the new major wars involved a tyrant, Cyrus. The 'hero's' of this world banded together and defeated Cyrus, at the cost of Vector being nearly leveled. After him, there came a series of others just like him, just different forms. Nae'bils... Loci, Pathos, Kayotic... the list goes on. And always the final battles took place in and around Vector. We just had all the luck." Vincent sighs, visually phased by this conversation. "Everytime we rebuilt, another war broke out and the city was leveled again. Then one day, the gods themselves went to war. The angels verse an angel verse the gods as well as some type of angel killer. After a few months and constant battles, the region we lived in was so decimated with magical radiation that the very bonds of reality were falling apart. Those of us that fled, ended up vagabonds... those that didn't." He takes another sip of the sherry, finishing his glass. "Not really sure how to explain it." He sets his glass back down with a dull thud against the table. "Legends get sketchy from there, the angels lost and were stripped of their abilities... and for once, the world was quiet. Me and my crew here banded together a few years after that and we've been earning a living in the skies every sense. Stateless and penniless, we etched out a living the best way we could."
Tresk speaks now, soft spoken and calm, his voice is almost soothing. "Then we ended up getting caught in a torrent of conflicts which lead us to see the restoration of our once destroyed homeland-"
"But it was no longer our home anymore." Vincent chimes in. "Our families, friends, old lives, all were lost when the land was lost. What emerged when the land was restored was just a ghost. Disappointing in a way, a sigh of relief in another, gave us an excuse to stay together - and that's exactly what we did."
Vincent makes a long pause, his eyes focused on the crest etched into his sherry glass. He stares at it with a slight sadness from long ago and creates an awkward atmosphere, which Nahla quickly breaks.
"So, yeah, that's the gist of it. Now what of you Kai?" Nahla asks.
Miguel looks to Kai as well, curiously. "Yes, what were you doing in this swamp? Somehow I doubt it was just an evening stroll."

Kai nodded to everything Vincent was telling him. It was somewhat interesting. He felt somewhat sorry for these people but he doubt they would like pity either. “I suppose it is my turn to tell about history,” said Kai. He then tried to remember if there was anything in his past he would say. He paused for a few minutes of brainstorming until he continued “Well I was… Actually it started when… Well, there isn’t much to say.” He didn’t know what to say. He waited quietly still thinking of what to say. But, he suddenly decided or instinctively, he didn’t know. “I don’t remember much; to tell you the truth I don’t remember anything.” He didn’t mention anything about voices or the inability to get hungry just yet.
He didn’t want to say that he was hearing voices or anything. It would have been to embarrassing. He was beginning to think that he was becoming more of a threat to them every minute. “I woke up in a field of grass. I wandered a bit and somehow ended up in the marshes where I met you guys. That’s all I can say really,” said Kai. He took a deep sigh; just thinking about it was already giving him a huge headache.
During this time he was also thinking about the general names Kefka. The name felt so familiar. It was then he remembered a woman’s voice speaking about a person named Kefka. Who was this woman? He didn’t know. But, he figured it be best to keep a note of it for now.
“Well, It sounds like you’ve had it somewhat rough? Hey, mind if I join you guys for now? I have nowhere to go. I’m sure I can be very useful,” asked Kai. He didn’t know how he could be useful. But, then he heard a voice again. It was the voice of the same woman from before. “Protect…” It was all he could hear. “I-I can take care any trouble if you run into it,” Kai blurted out. He felt like an idiot for saying it. Heck he didn’t even think he was the one who said it. It was like something was making him say it.

The table erupts in a audible chuckle when Kai says he can 'protect them'. Survived years without 'protection', defeating monsters, demons, Loci, and a natural god and here is a what appears to be a kid saying he can protect them.
"Protect us?" Nivzad bellows. "From what? You!?" He laughs loudly, slapping Kai on the back hard with his big meaty palm. "That's a good one."
Vincent chuckles as he shakes his head. "No, Kai, we don't need protection. We've weathered through some of the greatest atrocities ever perpetrated toward man or beast, we've seen places that exists outside time and space and always pulled through alright. Beside, I think Nahla would be jealous if anyone tried taking her job."
Nahla smugly smirks, leaning back in her chair while crossing her arms.
"And no, we don't take on new crew. We have no place for another here, but - we may be able to do something for you." Vincent leans forward, resting his elbows on his tables. "So, memory loss? And a field? If it is alright with you, we'd like to run a few tests in our medical bay - after dinner of course. We might be able to figure something out about you. Amnesia is treatable, if I remember rightly, perhaps something we could do can trigger that dormant memories to come to the surface"

Kai was so embarrassed by the comment he made he would blush if he could. Oddly enough he didn’t and the hit on the back shooting all the air out of him didn’t help. “H-hey I’m serious!” reacted Kai. But, the idea of Nahla being jealous was somewhat amusing in Kai’s mind.
“Tests?” asked Kai with a little bit or worry in his voice. He was somewhat scared of an idea of tests and such. He didn’t know why; just a feeling. “I suppose I can take a few tests,” agreed Kai. Although he had a feeling that there wasn’t really a choice to begin with. It also made him wonder if he was even human. Considering the fact that he out ruled a few limitations a normal person would have.
“Hey, can I ask you something? What do you think of me?” He was serious on this question. He didn’t fully trust these people as of yet but he didn’t not trust them either. “I mean what if I’m…” He didn’t know what to say.
“So what now?”

"What if you are what?" Rafee asks curiously, looking at Kai like a puzzled dog.
"The tests aren't that bad." Nahla chimes in. "Simple scan, blood test, the usual. Not going to probe you or anything - unless you want that." She smirks.
"Kai, it doesn't matter what we think of you. You are a guest on board this ship and you'll be treated as such, unless you violate our hospitality." Vincent explains while pouring himself another glass of sherry. "You act if we haven't been around, you might find it interesting to note that this very table has sat the oddest and wildest assortment of characters. Such as a demon witch who was also a princess, a Burmecian who had reverted to a feral state of being, a shape-shifting girl, a Bohemian gypsy, the President of Esthar, a rogue sorceress, a one-eyed political exile, and the greatest hero this world has ever known, and that's just to name a few. You honestly think anything you can do or be would could be considered... strange?" He sits back in his chair to enjoy his sherry comfortably. "We wait till after dinner. Eat up."

“Blood huh?” He wasn’t really afraid of blood but he was worried about it. Like he was afraid that something was wrong. His feeling had always bothered him to most.
“I suppose so,” answered Kai to Vincent’s comments of there being people of all other assortments that use to be here. He wondered what’s there average rate of picking up guests. Considering that they had so many “different” ones.
Kai continued to eat his food tasteless food. “This is very good,” lied Kai. He knew courtesy is still a requirement even if it was a false fact. It also made him wonder what he really was. Heck it also made him wonder what this “Vincent” character was. It was also then, when he was still in deep thought, that he automatically remembered something from his past. He remembered a town. “What do you guys know of a place call Ur?” To be more exact he remembered the name but not where it was. “I just remembered something. I’m not sure if Ur is a place or a person,” said Kai as he continued to eat.

"Ur... Ur..." Vincent thinks, rubbing his chin. "Name rings a bell... but I can't place it. After we're done in medical, we'll go to my cabin. I have some books there that may tell us. I pride myself on my collection of volumes of history and lore, sort of a hobby of mine."
"If ya'll excuse me," Nivzad boasts as his chair screeches from under his massive frame, sliding away from the table. "the engines are callin."
Vincent nods and waves him off before turning back to Kai. "But why you ask, Kai, does that name strike a cord in your memory? Could Ur be where your from or the name of a family member?"
At the table, Miguel pushes his empty plate away and in its place, sets the raggedy little plush - it's like some sort of small animal, perhaps a rodent or weasel that sits upright with button eyes.
"Ye know, capt', last time we had a conversation like this with someone, Natalia was sittin' right there where Kai is an I had just found this thing." He raises his dinner knife and lightly jabs it at the plush. "Maybe he'll be the next Nat."
Vincent, Nahla, Tresk and Rafee all stare at Miguel, slightly frustrated with daggers in their eyes.
"What? Is possible, ain't it?" Miguel questions, shrugging his shoulders, then focuses back on the little toy.
"Don't pay Miguel any attention." Tresk asks of Kai. "He's an odd one."

“I’m not really sure. The name just popped in my head. It sounds familiar but I’m not really sure per say,” said Kai unsurely. Who knows maybe Vincent had something on the subject and if his collection was as vast as he said it would be, just maybe it will contain what he needed. “I thank you for your help.” He pushed his plate forward and folded his arms. “The food was good, thank you.” He figured he had spent a sufficient amount of time eating already.
Kai heard the tale about Natalia and it intrigued him somewhat. “Who is Natalia?” asked Kai. The way everyone reacted he was curious. “I would really like to know.” He wanted to know if this Natalia had a misfortune with this crew. If so he would know what to avoid in the future.

Vincent finishes his meal and pushes his plate away. "Don't concern yourself about Natalia. She was a friend of ours, died a few years back, that is all." He wipes his lips with his napkin, before setting it on the table beside his plate. "Rafee, please clean up and take the rest of the night off. Nahla... Kai, meet me in medical when you're done."
With a screech of his chair, Vincent stands and departs the room through the same door Kai came through.
"It's a touchy subject." Nahla states. "Best avoid asking about it again. Anyway, Kai, you ready?" Nahla asks as she too stands.

Kai knew he had entered a somewhat touchy subject and felt somewhat uncomfortable from it. “Thank you for the food,” said Kai and with that statement got up slowly trying not to make the screeching sound the chair would make if slid. He never liked the noise it bothered him a lot. He nodded to Nahla’s comment about Natalia.
He then followed Nahla to the medical room. He kept quiet until he was out of sight of the others. “She must be close to you guys. You know it’s better to let everything out instead of grieving,” said Kai. Kai folded his arms as he continued following Nahla.

"No greiving about it..." Nahla spat out. "She's in Cocytus now, leave it at that."
Upon entering the medical bay, they find Vincent already there, preparing some the devices. Nahla goes over and assists him, prepping a syringe and a machine.
"So Kai, not scared of needles are you?" Vincent asks, playfully. "Got a big one right here for that vane in your arm."
Nahla pats the table in the center of the room, motioning for Kai to jump up. "Take a seat right up here and we'll get started." As she says this, she rolls a tray beside the table. On it rests a series of testing vials, syringes, some strange looking electronic device, and antiseptic gauze and wipes.
"Well, Kai, we'll get started when you're ready." States Vincent as he flicks on what looks to be a large scanning device that has attachments hanging from the bulkhead over the examination table.

“Needles? Nah I’m fine with them,” replied Kai. He then walked over to the seat to get ready for the check up. Kai pulled his right arm out for Vincent to inject it in. It was odd, his hand made a clonk sound when it hit the hand rest. As if it was some heavy rock or weight. Unknowing to him, his body was made of up of mostly Crystals and to penetrate that surface would take something more than just a needle.
Kai felt somewhat uneasy with the other tools however. Especially the strange looking electronic device. He wondered what that was used for. He sure hoped it wouldn’t be used to send jolts of electric into his body. He hated that feeling. But, it was odd since he didn’t remember getting electrocuted but he had the feeling.
“Ok I’m ready here,” answered Kai.

"Then let's begin; Nahla, draw blood while I warm up the scanners." States Vincent as he turns to the device on the wall.
"Aye, sir." Nahla approaches beside Kai, snapping on latex gloves. "Don't worry, it'll only hurt for a moment." She takes ahold of a syringe from the steel tray, inspects it momentary. She then takes his wrist, turning it over to find the vain. "Just a pinch." Then plunges the syringe down - the needle bends the minute it hits Kai's skin, bends then snaps, the tip flying off in the room never to be seen again.
"That... was unusual..." Nahla says, stunned and perplexed. "Captain, think you should see this." She turns around to face Vincent, holding up the syringe.
Curious, Vincent steps forward and takes the syringe, inspecting it over. "What in all the hells..." He sets it down, picks up another and tries once more with similar results. "Kai... are you human?" He asks sincerely. "Hold still..." He flicks down the strange devices from the bulkhead above down, till they encircle Kai. "This will take a few moments, try not to move much.
There's a distinct silence in the room as Nahla and Vincent watch the display screen of the device, waiting for the results to come back in this most peculiar case. The devices around Kai buzz, encircle, and flash in blinding light. It's all very disorientating.

“I’m not sure,” said Kai. Most of the time he was under the impression that he as human; however he had his small doubts from time to time. He looked at the need with some uncertainty. He didn’t feel anything from it. In fact he didn’t even notices the need touched his arm and broke. He looked at the to who were running the tests on him and wondered what they were going to do if they find something “peculiar” about him.
He thought to himself for so long that he barely noticed the devices around him being to start until the buzzes and flashes began to start. It was beginning to annoy him; actually it was more than just annoying it was aggravating. His body began to glow as if reflecting from the lights. He closed his eyes from the intense light coming off of his body.
But, what worried him more is what would come of the test. He was unsure and scared about what would happen. Unknowing to him, his body was made of crystals and it would react accordingly with or without his consent.

The whine and flashing of the machines comes to an end and through the dying light, reveals Vincent and Nahla standing dumbstruck, looking at Kai. Their eyes momentarily blind and burning from the intense light.
"Kai..? You ok?" Asks Nahla, thoroughly stunned and confused. "What... just happened?"
There's a ripping sound as Vincent tears away a paper from the computer, a readout of the results. He scans them quickly, then stuffs them into his pocket. "Kai, come with me. Nahla, finish up here."
Without a word of warning, Vincent 'helps' Kai off the examination table and onto his feet. "We need to talk, follow me."
Departing the medical bay, Vincent leads Kai through the hallway, up a set of stairs and towards a tiny hallway with two doors, one marked 'captain'. He unlocks the door, opens it and enters, beckoning Kai to follow. Inside, Kai finds himself in a finely furnished cabin, far nicer then the one he was given. Carpeted with fine rug, like a Persian, with a comfortable looking bed upon it that is set against a window. The exposed walls have more oil paintings of multiple mast 'tall-ships' upon them. One wall has a Victorian style writing desk beside which is a moderately large sized bookshelf filled to the brim with texts, volumes and tomes.
"Take a seat." He motions to a wooden chair near the door, with a small circular table beside it. "One moment." Vincent goes to the writing desk, opens a drawer and brings out a bottle of something, popping the cork and taking a long chug from it, before smacking it down onto the desk. "Ok, now tell me what the hell you are." He commands as he turns around, leaning against the desk, crossing his legs and arms. "Well, spill it, enough of this amnesia BS. I don't have the patience for it." He rubs his chin with one hand. "You know something is wrong, why else would you hide the fact something was wrong with the food. No one likes Rafee's cooking, you're pleasantries, although refreshing are quickly running thin. So, what is your real deal." He tosses the readout in Kai's lap. "Silica, quartz, and others I can't pronounce or never seen... so, what are you? Do you have any affiliation with The Order? Are you a golem? What is it?"

“I’m fine Nahla really I am,” responded Kai after rubbing his eyes. Kai didn’t know what just happened himself. He figured there must have been some kind of malfunction in the machine. But, this idea was thrown out the window when Vincent commanded him to follow him. It mustn’t have been good since they were to discuss this in private. He was somewhat worried considering how serious Vincent was. But, he also wanted to know what was wrong with him so without question he followed Vincent.
When they entered what Kai believed to be the Captains personal room he was amazed by its decoration. The bookshelf was already overwhelming itself let alone the painting and carpet. Kai loved knowledge and books were a key to it.
Without questioning Kai took a seat and waited for what the captain had to say. When Vincent asked Kai who he was, he didn’t know what to say. “Well… I don’t know,” answered Kai. But, Vincent was being persistent. He really didn’t know what he could possible say to satisfy Vincent. He knew Vincent was getting somewhat irritated and it too made Kai somewhat irritated. “I don’t know what I am… But, I am not you enemy,” replied Kai with certainly in his voice.

"Then what are you trying to hide?" Vincent asks with desperate longing, dying for an answer. "You come on board, claim to have amnesia, lie about something so trivial, then these... tests! I dunno what you are or your game, but this whole thing has got me uneasy." He runs his hands over his face, down his muzzle, then sighs. "So you have no idea who or what you are but we know that you 'woke up' in a field, wondered here, can't taste anything, and made of... crystals? Bloody weird." He walks to the book shelf, scanning through the various volumes, pulling the occasional book out and tossing it to his bed. Old, dusty books that appear to be filled with ancient history as indicated by their fading spines and covers. "Here, skim through these." He turns to the bed, picks up the books, about four in total. He turns and sets them down upon the small table. "Take note of anything that you find that sparks something in that troubled little mind of yours. Take your time, I need to relax." Turning around, he walks to a cabinet and opens it, flips open a compartment which reveals a phonograph made of wood and polished brass. He takes up a large black record, sets it on the device's turn table, places the needles upon it as it begins to play. As the music begins to play Vincent takes up a black leather case in his hands and returns to his bed. He sets down upon its soft looking sheets, back against the same cabinet, sitting upright. He flips open the case and brings forth a violin and bow. "If you don't mind, it calms my nerves." He states as he too begins to play, timing in with the music, syncing his playing up the first violin in the piece playing on the phonograph.
