The airship had set down outside the forest, in the now clear area surrounding the MAKO reactor and Morgan and Iris had disembarked.
"It's been at least a year..." Morgan commented, lost in a memory.
Iris stood silent. She hadn't intended on interrupting Morgan's reminiscing, anyway, but she had other reasons for remaining quiet. She... sensed something. Coming from town.
[glow=blue,2,300]Coral, dear... I need you to do me a favor... Come out here.[/glow]
"I made some friends here..." Morgan mused, "I wonder if they're still around..."
"I hate to be a bother, but I'm going to leave you with Coral for a few moments. I have business in town."
"I can come, too."
"No. You have business out here." Iris indicated the barren waste.
"What?"
"Don't question her... It's pointless." Coral laughed, coming from the ship.
"I'll be back before you know it," Iris smiled and began to walk to town.
"Why do you think I have to be here?" They both asked it at the same time.

They laughed after jinxing each other. They sighed, then Morgan began to speak.
"So... Coral. You're fairly close to Iris, right?"
"Not nearly as close as she is to me."
"So, you can't..." Morgan indicated his head, waving his fingers.
"Heavens, no! I'm just her personal assistant."
A silence. "Why do you ask?"
Morgan hesitated, "Well... I was just wondering if you knew how much Iris knows..."
"For example, what does she know about you?"
"... Yes. You see, I know very little about myself. So, if she can somehow see my past or something..."
Coral waved her hand slightly dismissively, "Don't stress over any of this. What Iris sees and what she doesn't is only known to her. And, if she does know something, she won't reveal it. She'll lead you to it."
"So, I should listen to her..."
"I always do.
I know I felt the presence... Iris walked at her normal pace through the monster-infested jungle, following the path to town. Someone...
"So..." Coral pointed to the building in the distance, "That was the reactor for this part. Did you know that there was talk of re-building that thing?"
"But... I thought they stopped refining MAKO."
Coral nodded, "Exactly why the original talks were squashed. Rumor has it, however, some high-powered entrepreneur proposed an alternative use for the reactor."
"Like what?"
Coral shrugged, "It was only a rumor I heard while Iris and I had stopped in Rocket Town."
"I wonder..." Morgan took a couple steps in the direction of the reactor, "I wonder if that run-in I had had anything to do with..."
"Run-in?" Coral's thirst for gossip had begun, "What kind of run-in?"
"Well, about a year or two ago, I was with a small group..."
Gongaga's depressing aura still permeated. Iris didn't mind. She didn't like to let physical atmosphere affect her. The Gaults also had been described as a cool bunch. They all looked at life as if they were merely watching a play.
Iris sensed something coming from the small item shop in town. She didn't hesitate.
A young woman stood with her back turned behind a counter, "Welcome!" She turned around. Mid-twenties, long light brown hair, pulled back, eyes of an odd mixed color. "Can I help you find anything?"
Before Iris could answer, another voice rang out, "Do we have a customer? Tina? Is that a customer?" A little girl ran out of the background, "Oh! OH! A customer!" The girl had black hair, bright eyes, she couldn't have been any older than six or seven, "What was it you told me to say, again!? Oh yeah! Welcome! Can I help you find anything today!?" The little girl seem ecstatic to be helping.
"Well," Iris smiled at the energetic child, "I suppose I could use... Ether. Do you have any Ether?"
"OH! We do! We do! We just got some more, too! So we have a lot!" the girl held out her hands as far as she could, "We almost have this much!"
The young woman, Tina, laughed, "Thank you, Sandy. Do you want to go get some of those new Ethers? We may as well give her the best of what we have."
"Okay!" Sandy ran back into the back room.
"She's a darling child." Iris said, "Is she... yours?"
"Mine...? Oh! Well... No. Not exactly..."
"Is there a story involved?" Iris smiled her normal smile.
"Haha... Yes there is, but it's very long, and... A little personal..." Tina continued her cheerful service attitude, but the look in her eye showed suspicion.
"What about..."
[glow=blue,2,300]This?[/glow]
Tina was startled. Not shocked. She knew exactly what had happened.
[glow=purple,2,300]... You can do it, too?[/glow]
[glow=blue,2,300]Indeed...[/glow]
"And how did you escape?" Coral was enthralled. Imagine, meeting a little girl and a young woman, in search of the girl's mother, and winding up locked up.
"Well, it was the girl, actually. She somehow managed to find the security keys."
"But where were you!? How did you get out? What happened to the man and woman who abducted you?"
"Well, we managed to find our way to an elevator. We rode it to the first floor and fought our way out."
"The girl could use magic, right? And the young lady..."
"She was like Iris, actually. Anyway, I don't really know what happened. I just teleported us to Gongaga. We parted ways."
"What were their names?"
Morgan laughed, "I haven't mentioned their names? The little girl was Sandy. The other, Tina."
