Can you be original characters from the game in this rpg?

Honestly, that's a bit hard to say. It has been done before from previous FFTs, so I would say it would be OK, though I recommend to make an original character, but yes it would be OK. Just remember to be very responsible, if you know what I mean.

I would have to say that it depends on what character you wish to use. Consider that the timeline here is after the events of the games/advent children.
Btw, if you want to bring back a villian, ya got to get through me. GRRRRRR.

^ Don't mind Loci. He has a tendency to scare people off; it kind of his "job" and a way to see if RPers are ready to take on the things happening in Re:FFT. He's also the long-time villian of FFT.
(wonders if it was too late)

Personally, I think using one of the old characters like Squall, Cloud, Zidane etc. takes all the fun away from your experience. It's way more fun to use a character of your imagination. It also gives us some insight into who you are. But that's just me.
P.S. Loci's bark is worse than his bite ^_^

You could always base your new character off an old one via relative like me.

Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm the guru of using existing canon characters on FFT, especially since I think I'm the only one that's consistently done it. (Maybe not, I don't know.) I'm sure this question will come up again, so despite the inactivity in this thread, here I go: Note that my character would be Laguna Loire. Now, since the canon storyline of Final Fantasy 8 ends with the defeat of Ultimecia, I can't make Laguna 27 years old. Even though that's his (average) age at all the points he's playable in the game. I could make him 47 (supposedly his age at the end of the game), but I'm opting to go for something more like 49 because I think it fits the timeline of FFT better. Ordinarily, I'd agree. To be honest, I ALWAYS create my own characters. It's just what I do. However, Laguna's personality in the games just seemed like so much FUN, I had to try it out. Using an actual character does lead to more responsibility, though. You have to be true to the style of that character in the games, and that does limit what you can do with the character. Obviously, you can be creative as long as you can explain how a change in the character came about in their backstory. But if you don't plan on playing the character at least close to how they appear in the games, you're better off making your own. And that's a way to have it both ways. ;D Lucia Valentine did that. Her character was mostly original (and became more original over time), but she was the daughter of Vincent Valentine. Which would explain any similarities between Vincent and Lucia, as well as express the player's love for one of her favorite canon Final Fantasy characters. While still being creative and making her own character. (I did the same thing on Nevaeh's FFT, creating a sort of homage to the "Laguna's daughter" concept Rainii started - Julie Loire. I've since scrapped the character, though she may or may not come back. I'd have to discuss it with Rainii first.) So there are lots of pros and cons, either way. In the end, you should carefully consider whether a character you create or an existing Final Fantasy character is the right choice for what you plan to do. (Wow, that turned out longer than I expected. Maybe this should be some kind of official guide on the site? )

I agree with Laguna. We should post it on the rules or something.

We don't need to worry about it because out of all my years doing this only Laguna has used an existing character. Otherwise only: Lucia Valentine, Zion & Chaos, me, Rainii (I believe that's all) are even somewhat related to characters used. The odds of seeing it again are slim. Memory has other things to do than to worry about that stuff. (Not trying to offend anyone)but I was admin for a long time and trivial things like this are unneccessary.

Meh. I don't really mind. Infin's right about me being the only one so far anyway. (Well, one of two if you count Rinoa from Final Fantasy Dream, but she concentrated more on administration.)
I think it's enough that we've got my advice there if it ever becomes an issue.

Well as a matter of fact, I'm joining as Siefer! He is an existing Canon Character. (dont worry, i've been doing this for yrs.) but I hope it's not an issue.
