Define: ge·ni·us lo·ci n. 1. The distinctive atmosphere or pervading spirit of a place. 2. The guardian deity of a place. You come to a hill's crest, along a broken stone road, overlooking the decaying tomb of the once proud city-state of Burmecia. Once the home of a noble race of creatures and standing as a monument to their warrior class, it is now little more then gravestone slowly being eroded away by the constant rains; their race long been scattered by the tide of war. The old man's ramblings of relics and valuable artifacts residing within its decaying walls were fantastical, exacerbated further by his story of once being a prisoner here, kept captive by that malicious creature called Loci. Forced into servitude to complete Loci's palace and left to die in the surrounding fields, he escaped the twisted and mutated fiends to recount his story; least so he claimed. Here, he said, there lives creatures not of this world or the next. Once simple, harmless animals now long mutated by the blight of the land and the chocking poison of the air turning them into ravenous soulless beasts with teeth, tentacles and claws and nothing more. He recounted stories of even a less tangible nature, that of ghosts and spectrals, tortured souls that haunt this sorry place which reach out with cold, ethereal talons at any living that wander too far, as if wishing to grab the life from their flesh and take as their own. More troubling yet was his account of the creature Loci itself, a seemingly omnipotent entity with a sadistic streak and glutton for power and a masterful schemer, like a Gaea bound devil. Yet, here you are, standing before the forgotten city. What drove you to here? Were the old man's stories just stories or are there merit in his words, well, what do you care? Even after he warned you about this place, not to come here, that it was too late for him, that the city will win; yet you didn't listen even when they found him dead the very next day. The rains have picked up again, drowning the earth with their torrent, trying to wash away the blight that scars this place. You find it eerie, how the city in the distance feels as if its watching you, alive and calculating. Will you continue deeper into the region in search of this hypothetical treasure, throwing caution and warning to the wind, or turn back now before you find yourself in too deep? ::Yllaine stand in front of the greif ridden area; herself being filled with much negative impulses::
"Something is really odd about this place but something's pulling me to go into there. I wonder what happened here."
::Yllaine felt that similar urge to buy rare item from an old weary merchant as it was learning about a treasure within the ruins of the area she was staring at.
She hurried down the crest watching her step to avoid as much accidents or trouble as possible. The presence of excitedness filled her despite the negative sight she was looking at.::

Something is indeed odd about this place, its the type of place where you cannot shake the feeling of being watched from the shadows and low lying fog. In the distance, you can hear the sounds of animals, a bird perhaps or a wayward fiend, that washes over the abandoned fields and echoes off the rotting, collapsed homes. The city is some distance away still, its collapsed walls and jarred gate are clearly visible from here. Getting inside will be no problem for you.
On the stone road, you notice odd shapes sticking out of the mud, some partially submerged and caked to become twisted shapes, gnarled and peculiar. A bony hand protrudes prominently out from the earth, held together only be the mud that has caked it and turned like clay. It's clear that a battle took place here, ancient weapons lay rusting on the ground, armor with the remains of its former occupant left inside, and the scattered bones still reaching out to their enemy, defending their city even in death.
There's several homes and farms still standing just off the main road, requiring to transverse through the high grass and wheat left to grow wildly. It would be hard to see what is in front of you should you stray from the path and the mud may be thick, slowing your pace. Or you could continue down the path towards the gate and walls, ignoring the buildings entirely.

::Yllaine stops for a while. She looks at the distant, seemingly, village. It looked very old and seemed to be abandoned.::
"A village? I'll go see if they know about any treasure around! I hope they could help me, at least some people to accompany me. And when I get that I could be really rich!"
::Yllaine walked off the road onto the the muddy ground. The thickness of the mud was enough to support her weight. She continued to walk to the village, taking her chances of finding anyone in there. She still didn't let her guard down. After all, it was really creepy around the area.::

You come to a few homes scattered amoungst the wild wheat, clearly indicating that this was once a large farm. It's quiet here, the buildings are all decaying and appear to have been abandoned ages ago, probably during the Alexandrian war. In the mud, you can see clearly the tracks of animals that have come and gone through here, one such set of prints lead into the main house, a large two story stone building beside a collapsed, charred barn. It appears that the barn was burnt to the ground a long time ago, the wood nearly decayed to nothing but dust and only its stone foundation still remaining in tact.
There's little here, except to check the main house or one of the small buildings for anything of value. Though, because of the rain, its hard to tell how long ago these tracks were made and if one of these creatures is still around. If the old man's words were right, it could be risky to follow after.

"It seems like a bad decision to go in one of the houses. With these unusual footprints, I might be facing monsters instead of comrades."
::Yllaine walks along the little abandoned village setting up strings on windows and doors on the building. She threw in some strings inside the building from the outside. She seemed to set up the strings well and attached it to the others.::
"Heh! This should help me around."
::Yllaine carefully steps into a small house for starters to look for anything valuable.::

Inside, she finds the place dusty with a strong scent of mildew and mold. Tiny mushrooms grow in a few corners that emit a foul odor. It looks like the place was abandoned quickly, items are strewn on the floor, and much of it has been torn apart frantically. There's a few children toys, cups, broke plates, old bits of clothing, and other odds and ends. There's a few cupboards that look as if they haven't been ransacked. In what must be a bedroom, you notice some scratches on the walls that appear to have been purposefully made by a being of intelligence; there is also a nightstand with a drawer that hasn't been touched.
It's quiet here, like the whole world has ended. This, it feels, is what the world would look like after people have long past. A rotted, decaying monument to a dead civilization. A picture of a distant future.

"Better take my precautions."
::Yllaine pulls out a pink face mask and wears it. She couldn't stand the scent the mushrooms were giving off. She enters a small bedroom with a really tiny bed. There was dust everywhere. She looked to the right side of the bed and there was a seemingly untouched nightstand with a drawer. On the left side of the bed there was another nightstand same as the other yet it seems the dust hasn't settled on it.::
"Someone's been here."
::Yllaine opens the drawer of the dustless nightstand.::

Opening the drawer, she finds eye-drops. Nothing else appears to be inside it. Little else appears to be of interest here but what she first saw when she entered this tiny house, will she inspect the place further or continue towards the city gate and walls?
((Keep note of what you find, they may be useful later on.))

::Yllaine picks up the eye-drops. She wasn't entirely sure of when she might need to use it but it was better than nothing. Yllaine steps into the living room. As she walked on the rug, the floor below it creaked. Yllaine quickly jumped backwards. She was still cautious of her surroundings.::
"What is that?"
::Yllaine lifts up the rugs slowly, intently wishing that it was just some poor flooring.::

Under the rug, there is nothing but dust and mildew, the rug also begins to break apart in her hand from years of rot. A few bugs scatter away, but nothing for alarm. The floorboards appear nearly rotted out as well, probably causing the creak she heard.
All that remains in the building is just the cupboards and strange scrawling on the wall; its a tiny place with little to explore. Through a nearby window, she can see that the rains have picked up, as well as hear the droplets beating down hard on the collapsing roof. In the distance, permeating through the window, there comes a strange cackling, like something laughing but it doesn't sound human. It seems far away for now but its hard to tell how far sound can travel here, over the fields.

::Yllaine jumps up from the cackle. She hurries outside to see who it was. She removed her mask from her face. The rain was starting to drench her.::
"I've gotta find somewhere else to find shade."
::She finds a small abandoned building. Which she has also put threads in around the place. She stays here for a while until the rain stops so that she could continue again searching for her treasure.::

The rains quell slightly after about twenty minutes in this single room shack. Like the other place, this too looks ransacked with nothing left unturned.
From outside, it sounds as if something approaches. Not rain, you can hear the footfall of something heavy just on the other side of the building's wall, followed by that cackling heckle. It gets closer and closer, now just near the opening where once must of been a door. Slowly something emerges from the side of the door, a ghoulish thing gazing from just beyond the arch. A white furred demon with straight-horns and a long neck, like a dragon yet far more frighting, staring back at her with frozen glee.
The curious being did not move much save for lightly bobbing it’s head, much like a snake trying to remain erect off the ground. A grin devoid of emotion remained forever frozen on it’s face; a crocodile’s grin. The bulging red eyes of the beast peered outward in two different directions like a lizard, yet the impression that it’s focus was clearly attuned to you is quite immense. With a body nowhere to be seen it’s head and neck just loomed there, as if suspended by unseen threads in the air. No sound was made; not a hiss, not a growl nor even the slightest collision with the environment. If it was not for the shadow it cast on the floor before you, you may have even doubted this creature’s corporealness. Even in his most vivid nightmares you could have never envisioned anything quite like the frozen, silent hell of staring this creature down.
Nearly ten entire minutes passed before the creature slowly veered it’s neck back. It remained nearly static as it loomed out of slight, like a prop cardboard cut-out sliding on a rail off stage, then trots off by the sound of earth below feet. Now, no more sounds, neither footfalls or cackles are heard, just the light steady rain. Do you carry onward or turn back now before that creature returns to partake in a meal of you.

"What was that?"
::Yllaine pinned herself on the wall. She didn't expect such thing to be in here. Shivers were around her body as she remembered every second of it. Yllaine quickly walked out of the building and out into the rain. ::
"I have to get out of here before that thing gets me!"
::Yllaine ran onto the wet muddy field and onto the road she was previously been walking on.::
"I'm never going back in there ever!"
::She proceeds to the city gates and walls just right ahead of her.::

The return to the road results in Mason getting her clothes caked in mud and earth, its cold and annoying but nothing more then a nuisance. The road is as she left, littered with the skeletons of soldiers from an ancient battle. Walking to the main gate, Yllaine is met by a male Burmecian, standing with his back against the wall of the archway leading into the city. He's dressed as a civilian, though his clothes appear extraordinarily out of date. When she approaches, he steps out to block her path.
"You shouldn't be coming here," He says, darkly. "Go back, this is no place for the likes of you. Nothing in there but sorrow, hate, wrath, and fear... You won't make it back out alive." He wavers before her, blocking her path inside. "Can't let you inside."
With him blocking your path, there appears little else to do except push past him, turn around, or seek an alternative method of gaining entrance to the city - like the crumbled wall just a few hundred yards to your left.

::She smiles at the Burmecian blocking her way.::
"Really? I could handle myself good you know. How about I give you this pretty gold necklace and you can let me in! In case I don't make it back then you wouldn't have to worry! It's a win-win situation I'm offering you; just like a kind merchant to her loyal customer!"
::Yllaine pulls out a heavy necklace with an unusually big ruby attached to it. She dangles this in front of the Burmecian watching it glimmer in front if his face. She doesn't wipe out her smile trying to keep a positive atmosphere between her and the furry creature.::
"And don't mind me asking you this but who and WHAT are you?"

The Burmecian looks at the pretty necklace, curiously, he reaches out to touch it but is taken back by the girls inquiry. He looks up to her, puzzled by her question but answers sincerely.
"I am what was this city, no more. If you feel that which lies before you is worth bargaining for, then keep your gold. It has no value to me anymore, and neither will it to you after you pass through this stone arch." He steps aside then, allowing her passage into the suburbs of the city.
"Go into the city and find what your bravado desires, maybe you can barter your necklace for something far more important in there."
The Burmecian steps back against the archway wall, from there his body appears to become fuzzy and a strange smell permeates in the air around him, sulphuric in nature. "Remember, in the real world as in dreams, nothing is quite as it seems. Farewell, young barrator." Suddenly, the rat creature takes on a new light. Its body becomes gangly and sunken. His eyes grow dim, face falls away like a corpse drying out in a desert sun. Strange ethereal tendrils, like gnarled arms and hands reach out from the stone that grab ahold of the creature and quickly snatch him away into the solid stone as they disappear.
You find yourself along again, through the gate you will find the more skeletons left from the ancient war along with the debris of blown out homes and ravaged shops, further up this main street you think you can make out the remains of some sort of outdoor market. The main street also has a number of smaller side streets and alleys that branch off, some however are blocked by fallen stone walls and those buildings that haven't entirely collapsed in on themselves or look to be shut tight and boarded up are still readily accessible from the outside.

::Yllaine put back the necklace inside her sling bag and walked into the area. It was even gloomier in there than it was outside.::
"I need to find an inn somewhere to clean and dry myself off."

There was no inn that could be seen, mostly just old shops and homes. Overall, the place felt deserted, a ghost town and after what happened to the stranger at the gate, sure it must feel even more ghastly now then ever. There however were some sounds of what may be assumed to be life, a faint rustling of tiny creatures scurrying about, maybe even a fiend or two somewhere lurking behind long forgotten crates and barrels, left to rot in the rain. Over that, the further you go inside, there comes a more familiar sound, like that of crying emanating from one of the side-streets. It sounds feminine, distinctly, but its source is unseen. Also, traveling out from the marketplace, there comes another sound, like that of whimpering and tearful muttering which that sounds masculine. Two distinct sounds of life, from two different directions, straight ahead of to the right.
The rest of the place seems deathly quiet, the old buildings looming over you like a disapproving parents, watching your every move with strange intentions. Perhaps they too could shed light on this grim, deary place. Their insides still ripe for the picking, but, what to do about the sounds and worse yet, what if that creature from the fields should show? Surely it wouldn't enter the suburbs, would it?

::Yllaine curiously looks around the ruins. She was starting to get used to the gloominess the place had. Yllaine started to search buildings in search of rare items she can possibly sell for high prices.::
"AAAHH! Once I sweep all these buildings with rare artifacts I can return to Luca and get paid BILLIONS for it!"
::She couldn't contain herself and was even motivated to look for more stuff. She search gleefully with a smile on her fiace even if there was no one to see her joy for getting lots of money.::
