"Well, one is Guinevere. But we haven't seen her since we stopped her at Leah Garden, right Lillith?"

::Lillith stifles a shudder at the mention of her ex-colleague::
True, but this isn't really Gwen's style. She's crazy and bloodthirsty, but she's too much of a princess to get her hands dirty. I don't think she'd go in for something like cutting someone open. She's just not the serial killer type. Besides, let's say I was close enough to him to determine that he is definitely a man.

"We can also rule out Elias Sands. I know that guy would rather have one of his lackeys do the work than soil his own hands. Besides, he doesn't seem to be one to explore the occult."

So along with Sands, I think we can also rule out anyone who's been tied to The Empire before, like Paxton and Faleris. What about Loci? You think he's back?

::Eva shook her head::
"Loci would be the last one I would think of that would go through all this trouble for nothing..."
::She frowned::
"Besides something tells me he would be a lot sneakier and twisted than what we dealt with so far."

You guys would know. I never officially met him... and I'm kind of jealous of that. What does that say about me? Anyway, who does that leave? I'm still banking on someone from the Order, and Iole said that it's possible that either Yersinia or The Shepherd might still be alive. But as far as I know I've never met any of them. And he definitely knew me personally. Just the way he talked to me told me we had history. I never thought I'd be so disappointed to realize how small the list is of homicidal maniacs that I know.

Sina just sips her coffee. She was listening to them but was not to completely comprehend the conversation. It was better for her to stay silent. She then nods her head in agreement appearing as if she understood the situation.

*Jas thinks as they eliminate suspects* Who else is missing? We counted everyone... Wait.
"How about August? He was into the occult, he knew who we are granted he met some of us once. There's also the fact we don't know about his past, he could of studied medicine, giving him the knowledge of the human anatomy at one point and how to remove organs with damaging them. He also looked like he was willing to get his hands dirty if the need calls for it."

::Lillith is completely silent. Jas' words seem right on the money. The possibility of August being the Harvester when you compared their MO was very high. August had been a brilliant scholar and a quick thinker. And it had been no secret that he had been into the occult. There had been times when she believed he was actually going to kiss that displacer beast that was always with him. But... however brief a time it was, August had been her friend. He had always seemed good natured to her, and he had saved her life once. Surely he wasn't capable of doing this to these women, to Oliver's mother::
But... He fell through the gateway, remember? How would he have gotten back here if that gate was destroyed?

"If there is one thing I've learned about magic, there's always a backdoor to things."
::Eva frowned a little bit::
"I don't know too much about August but from what your saying it may be a possibilty, that leaves the next question in regards to what his exact motive is."
::She thinks a little bit more::
"From what i've heard about Shaft's fight, I wouldn't put him out of the suspects list yet. Anything goes in this world of ours wouldn't you agree?"

"Exactly!" Sina said and stood up. "If i discover this backdoor thing you are talking about then I can improve my magic." She looks at the others nobody was listening to her. "Carry on."

"Amen to that, Eva. Besides, August was pretty tricky anyway, I wouldn't be that suprised if he turned up alive."
::She looks at Eva, then at Lillith.::
"So, is he the only suspect we have in all this? Because it sounds like it to me."

I hate to agree on this, but it sounds like his style. Iole would know more about those gates, but if it were at all possible that he could come back, he's definitely smart enough to pull this off. And he has the tools. As for his motive, I can answer that.
::She points to the book that still lies across Rainii's lap::
That book. He was obsessed with it. When we were working together during the war, he was always trying to find ways to trick me into telling him what I knew about it. Not to mention the way he was drooling over it when he actually saw it for the first time. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole reason he agreed to serve Natalia was just a ploy to get his hands on that book. But... I'd always thought of it as intellectual curiosity. I never would have dreamed he'd be willing to kill for it. I always told myself it was the gateway's magic that finally made him snap. Or that Nyx had lied and tricked Shaft.

"Greed...and a insatiable knowledge of wanting to learn."
::Eva sighed::
"This sounds like this is going to be a bit more troublesome than I thought. But if there is anything I do know..."
::Her eyes flashed for a brief moment::
"He's dangerous and if I don't know any better, if that trap he had set up on the last battle was his idea then we are working on a different scale right now."
::She placed her hand on her chin before looking out the window::
"Ok lets see what we do know. Assuming that August is the one after us, we know his target, and if anything he may have takened into account in regards to us eventually figuring out who he is so we can definitely expect some kind of resistance in regards to a confrontation."
Hmmm....we're being hunted like prey, like a cat toying with its meal before going in for the kill.
"Why not set up a trap of our own?"
::She then looked over at Rainii before an idea popped in her head::
"If he is after the book there is no telling whether or not if he knows Rainii got in contact with us again, no....he doesn't know she has the book, otherwise he probrably would've made her his target a long time ago. That could be the variable that he may not have takened account of."

What I still don't understand is how does ripping someone open and stealing their organs get him the book?

"Maybe he thought it would get our attention, and if he knows us, he knew we were likely to get involved. Maybe he thinks one of us has the book, but he isn't sure who, so he did something drastic to lure us all here."

That's a good theory, but I can't help but feel there's another agenda behind it. Our line of work tends to respond more to terrorism than a lone serial killer. Even now though we're all here, it's been mostly by coincidence. I mean, Eva was investigating something else, and Rainii, you just came here on a whim.

"Who knows with him." Jas replied. "All of us meeting here could be a coinicidence and not related to these events."

"I hate coincidences sometimes. There's always that mode of uncertainty somewhere."
::Eva frowned while looking out the window with a thoughtful expression on her face::
"Regardless though I suppose the real question would be what would be the next step? If the book is truly the target then we need to come up with a trap."

"But I know for a fact we can't risk the book. We can't use a duplicate because he might be able to see through the ruse. He's also good at hiding himself, since we didn't know he has returned."
"What about what you said to me earlier? About seeing his aura off that Gil me and Lilith found?"
"But we don't know if it does belong to him. For all I know it might of came off the victim that had it."
"Man, this is like trying to find a needle in a haystack."
