"Per'aps, but I was hopin to be ab'e to get in before we'd need to drop bombs." Oliver paused in thought, "I cou'd set up a few distractions inside the town. Cou'd draw t'ere attention if t'ey catc' wind of us. W'at if ye came with me, Stefan. W'en t'e time is rig't we can take to t'e air an' hit em wit an assault in t'at manner if and w'en we need it."

Brilliant. Perhaps you could set them off after we've infiltrated the facility. They'd enter lock down, but with all of their troops heading to the wrong part of the city.

Ren had just walked into the bridge when Anya buzzed the for the three. He was more than surprised to hear that they were headed for an ambush. His face quickly shifted into a frown. He remembered the whole event from Esthar. Ren swore to himself to never to get in trouble, but he had a big debt towards Iole for saving him. He gave a loud sigh and slowly walked up to the table with them.
"Well, I guess it's something I can do for you. After all, I agreed to go here." sighed Ren. He propped himself properly to give everyone a confident reassurance he was in it with them. "Once I get into the facility and open up the barrier, I could probably work on disabling some of the security cameras and secure a safe spot for all of you to exit. I can't guarantee the exit but I'll definitely try."
Ren crossed his arms, inspecting the map in front of him. Studying and memorising the terrain was no problem for him. In his mind, he was able assemble possible reconnaissance points for them. Before he could go on any further with his thoughts, he had to clarify something with the whole group.
"If it ever comes to us being cornered or captured, what do you suppose we should do. It never hurts to plan just in case everything doesn't go smoothly."

Oliver tried to contain his laugh as Ren suggested a plan if they were captured. "Ren, if any of us are captured, August wi'l torture an' kill us before ye can say 'No p'ease don't!'. Don't get captured, t'at's w'at I say on t'e matter. T'at bein' said, good to 'ave ye on board wit' us."

Oliver: Kerion, w'at's t'e Blackjack's armament? Cou'd ye provide air support w'en t'e chocobo dung hit t'e fan?
"Two twenty millimeter six barrel gattling guns, one on the nose of the Blackjack, the other on the underbelly, air-to-ground and air-to-air missiles, flares incase of heat seakers, deployable smoke screens, scrambler for any AA guns, flash bangs, grappler cables, and there's the stealth camo, but we never got the darn thing fully online. It cuts out after a few minutes and takes sometime to recharge, lasts longer if we don't use the weapon system. So, yeah, the Blackjack can supply air support."

Oliver nods, "Good, we're goin to need everyt'ing s'e got w'en we flee. Sure t'e Imperial dogs won't let us just wa'k in an' out all willy-nil'y like. I'll set off a green f'are for extraction." He gave a glance around the room. "We'll land 'ere." Pointing to a clearing a few kilometers away from the town, "T'e two teams wi'l move to their designated spots an' rig't at the first lig't we move on t'e city towards the faci'ity. Any ot'er questions or comments?"

::Iole grinned, and anyone nearby who had ever known Natalia could see a glint of the amethyst sorceress in her smile::
If all goes as planned, it's them who will need to escape. Let's get them.

::Following the Events in Maranda's Well of Misery:: ::The battle had gone smoothly after the heroes had left the facility. With a great deal of the troops already incapacitated thanks to their earlier efforts, the civilians of Maranda had a far more even fight, which sloped drastically in their favor when they were joined by a Dragon, a Dragon Man, a powerful Cetra, a Burmecian with a knack for explosives and crazy genetics, and a delivery boy with freakish strength who was adept at street fighting. They'd begun with Oliver setting off the bombs he'd planted earlier at key points to scatter the forces. Then Iole and Stefan and Jas had moved in to lend air support. Oliver had continued the fighting on the ground, leading the resistance in small groups to surround the soldiers. Those who didn't flee the city outright surrendered their arms. After the dust had settled, the heroes had departed in the Black Jack and were currently celebrating victory in the bridge. Limited gin of course because Maria was still on board, but that didn't stop them from enjoying the moment they had:: Gwen: I don't believe we should be celebrating just yet. The Empire kould still regroup and go after Maranda again. That's unlikely. It sounds like our little stunt sparked a rebellion all through the southern continent. They were already losing support. What we did just pushed them over the edge. Gwen: All the more reason we shouldn't waste time. They'll be pushing for Doma more aggressively now. Come on Gwen, will you just relax and enjoy our first victory? We haven't had one in awhile and you haven't had one in... well ever. ::Iole got a couple laughs from that:: Stefan: I must say, watching those civilians take up arms against trained soldiers was one of the most uplifting sights I've ever beheld! Now the Empire will have to think twice about how they treat their "commoners". ::While they celebrated, Iole couldn't help but notice a face that was strangely absent from the group:: Hey has anyone seen Ren? ::No one seemed to have an answer:: Kyran: I believe he went to his cabin.Hang on, I'll go see what he's up to. ::Iole left the others quietly, silently grateful for the chance she'd been given to speak to Ren alone. There was something she really needed to speak to him about. She knocked gently against his door:: Ren? It's Iole. Can I come in?

A long silent pause greeted Iole from the door. The stifled creaking of the camp bed indicated Ren rising to finally answer Iole's call. He opened the door slowly with a dull click to smile at Iole. He stepped aside to let her in. He found it out-of-the-norm for someone to visit his cabin ever since he came in with them.
"Did you need anything," asked Ren cheekily as he would. Something behind his tone that definitely showed he was trying his best to divert Iole's attention to other things. "Did you want to see the letter? If it's something about Plunder, don't worry. She's quite alright in the makeshift nest in the cargo."

::She let herself in and sat on the cot opposite his::
I'm not here to talk about either of those. I think you know why I'm here.
::Her eyes drifted to the still open doorway. This conversation she really didn't want overheard::
Close the door.
::Only after he clicked it shut did she continue::
Look, whatever it was she was promising you back there, it's your business. You don't have to share if you don't want to. But whatever it is, I can promise you it's not worth the price.

Ren lips tightened at what Iole said. His eyes looked away from her towards the window. He was quite irritated at what Iole had said. There was no use putting a sugar coat over their discussion; he knew perfectly well where this was to go. "Not worth the price," repeated Ren bluntly. Somehow, he couldn't resist but tell Iole what he wrestled with in his mind.
"What happened back there... I was beyond useless. Everyone could hold their own but I witheld all of you, especially Gwen. I saw the look in her eyes. If she had let the Synx get me, you would've had a chance against August." Ren's fist clenched tighter and his voice cracked. "I just wanted some strength to protect what matters. You stopped me. Why did you do that?"
Ren sat on his bed to look at Iole. He wanted to talk to her properly and with all seriousness. It wasn't always that he'd express his thoughts freely to someone, but he knew he could trust her.

::Iole sighed::
So that's what this is about.
::She could tell there was more to this than what he was saying, but she wasn't going to force it out of him. It was his issue and he'd confide in her only what he felt comfortable with at the time, which is what she decided to give him::
Ren, would you like to hear a story?

Sort of. It's just that I know someone who once went through what you did. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgG3bkVXMPo::She let out a long slow breath:: Once upon a time there was a very sick little girl. She was so sick that by the time she was five, she could no longer leave her bed. The doctors and healers couldn't do anything to help her, and when she turned six the only person who really cared for her, the girl's father died of the same illness. Left alone with only a mother who couldn't cope with her and the servants who would only whisper about how pitiful she was and how soon she was to die, the only friends the girl could find were in her books. She loved those books, and it seemed they loved her because they would take her anywhere she wanted. She'd read about far away places, magic, adventure, love, all the things she wanted to experience herself. Her favorite was about a girl like her who had a miserable life until a Fairy Godmother came and helped her change it. How the little girl wished she had a Fairy Godmother to take her far away to have all the things she'd read about. ::There was a deep sadness in her voice as she looked away from him to tell the rest:: Then one day, she got her wish. A beautiful Fairy came to her and promised to make her well again and take her away, but on one condition. The little girl had to promise to always obey the Fairy. The little girl said yes, and the Fairy flew away with her. Soon she was feeling better. She could walk, she could run, and thanks to the Fairy she could even fly. She was stronger. She was faster. ::She chuckled a little despite the somber tone in her recitation:: She was very very fast. She went on many adventures with the Fairy and loved her like her own mother. The Fairy was perfect in her eyes and the little girl wanted to be just like her. As she grew older she'd hear people whisper terrible things about the Fairy and sometimes about her. But she ignored them. They couldn't possibly be true. But then the time came when the little girl was all grown up and the Fairy was no longer with her. She began to see the world and everything in it for what it really was. And she could no longer deny the truth. ::He saw her fingers curl into fists:: That her Fairy Godmother was no Fairy at all, but a Witch. And that she hadn't given the little girl a new life at all. Instead she had turned her into a monster. And now the girl has to fight every day to keep the monster inside because she's already seen it hurt the ones she loves.

"A friend once told me," said Ren. He walked next to Iole, who seemed to be very deep in her thoughts. "In every story, the good guys always get their happy ending. I have yet to see if that was true, but I believe her. The girl in that story lived happily ever after. The way I see it, her story isn't over yet."
Ren knew this person was someone really close to Iole. But beyond the story, he knew, as well as she did, who the girl might be. Ren found her story quite radical and he believed her and every single detail of it. He ruffled her hair as if she was his little sister. "What do you say we go get her the happy ending she deserves?" smiled Ren.

::She slugged him playfully in the ribs::
I don't know what you're talking about. It was only a story. But I want to make sure you got my point. It's great that you want to be stronger and that you want to use that strength to protect what you care about. But if you really want it, do it with this.
::She made a fist and held her arm up::
This is all you need. No shortcuts, no magic, just this. And one more thing.
::She took a handful of his shirt and drew his face close to hers as she made a frightening face::
Darkness likes to dress itself up in glitter and stars, but don't forget what it really is underneath. Don't ever scare us like that again.

Ren stood straight as Iole let go of his shirt. One thing was for sure: his spirit was definitely lifted up with what Iole had said. Seeing her lift her fist and saying it was the only thing he needed left a pretty good mark on his head. He remembered his friend Sina saying something strangely quite similar.
"You'll have to work hard. Each and every day! With your own hands; with your whole life. Giving up is only temporary solution to a problem!"
Ren walked towards the door to unlock it. He turned back to Iole on the cot with a lively smile on his face. He was grateful for what Iole had done for him. Although he was just a disposable human at their hands, she still pulled him back from messing up his entire life. "Thanks. What you said... It really helps. I'll keep it in mind. Thanks again."

Iole: Any time.
::A knock at the door startled Ren (more because they had been sharing an intimate moment than anything else) but Iole already knew who was on the other side. Her ability to sense him was growing, and she wasn't sure how she felt about that::
Iole: It's alright, it's just Stefan.
::He left the door closed and addressed them from the hall::
Stefan: Burmecia is on the horizon. We'll be landing shortly. Ghastly place. Ren, are you sure you want to go there on your own? I've only been there once, but the others are right. There's something very wrong about that place.

Ren scratched his head. He had totally forgotten about Burmecia. He had never been to the place before, but everyone's opinion about the place made it seem like a rejected area of solitude.
"It wouldn't hurt to bring someone along, right. Who do you think would be alright to go with me?"
