As Eva and Kerion were talking with Iole, Sid had excused himself to Ollie's old room to receive a radio transmission from Connolly.
"Any vord yet?... How many?... No sign?... Yes, I suppose that might be asking to much... A commendation? Much good that does him nov... yes, I'll tell Iole... Alright, understand Captain. Sid out."
Sid opens the door back to the hall, just as Kerion is departing. He gives the man one last cold look before heading to the kitchen. "They've begun pulling bodies from the rubble, nothing else yet." He pauses for a moment. "In... good nevs, I suppose... Reynard vill be issuing a special commendation to Oliver, even talk of a memorial."
::At ground zero::
"By the bloody gods, does that lass ever quiet?" Connolly mutters to a fellow officer, standing aloft, watching Trish yammer on into a microphone and camera, continuously talking. It seems she barely stops for air, just repeats the same statements over and over until another note is placed into her hand.
The other officer clocks Connolly in the stomach with the back of his hand, just to get his attention. "I'm grabb'in chow, hungry?"
Connolly shakes his head. "Nah, gonna stay here till my man is brought out - or pass out. Whichever comes first."
"Understand, take care comrade."
"Aye, comrade."
As the fellow officer leaves, Connolly turns back to the rubble of the Palace. Still like a jagged mountain, smoldering, crawling with ants that drag one stone away at a time. He crosses his arms as he watches, contemplating the future of the LSR and the new world. The symbol of oppression lies in ruin, but so much uncertainty looms.
His attention is broken by the sounds of irate chirping from above, a top a large floodlight. It's just barely noticeable over the sound of a nearby generator and who knows how long it has been going on, now that it's been just over a day since the blast.
Connolly cover's his eyes, shading them from the bright light. It's a sparrow, a familiar one, well as familiar as any other to Connolly but there's something different about this one. It's eyes are different, a blue, and he can almost swear it's Oliver's little pet, whose name escapes him. He steps closer to the light but the bird zips off towards the rubble of the Palace.
"Blasted bird is mad out of it" He thinks, watching the little dart shoot away. "Get back here bugger!" Realizing Iole may wish to keep her and thus charges after the bird, running to the rubble and leaping up the crumbled, collapsed stone, much to the protests of the relief workers. LPA were not suppose to be be inside the the immediate work area, for the workers safety. Ignoring these calls, Connolly chases after the little beast till the bird lands on a spot away from the main focus of the relief efforts. It's a hot area, fires still burning deep under the tons of rubble.
"Got ya now, don't be shy. Ya know me, old friend of Ollie's." He says as he slowly steps closer to the bird, Emily replies with chirps and tapping her beak on the stone, hopping around in a circle of a single spot.
"What has gotten into ya? Did the blast knock you a little off?" He asks, rhetorically, but something about Emily's behavior is just too strange. "What is it, girl?" Connolly kneels down near the spot Emily is dancing on, looking peculiarly at her. "Something ya trying to tell me, that's what it is?" He places his hand on the stone she's dancing upon. It's warm, from the fires below. Feels like the top of an oven. "Ya, it's hot, so?"
Then Emily chirps and becks Connolly's hand, he yelps a tiny "oww", rubbing the spot where she pecked. It bleeds a tiny drop, some of which is on Emily's beak, which she taps back on the stone, leaving a tiny red dot. "You're mad! Ya know it." Then it hits hm. "Oh you clever girl-" He quickly stands and turns. "OVER HERE, DIG HERE!" He calls out to the relief crews, he runs down the rubble towards them, calling for their attention and pointing back to the spot where Emily still stands, chirping loudly.

::Oliver's Flat:: ::Iole stares blankly at the doorway where her sister and her friend turned enemy have just left, probably for good:: You still haven't answered my question Sid. What do you plan to do once this is over? ::Her voice is a bit more level now, almost like acceptance is starting to sink in:: He wouldn't want you waiting for death. Not after what he did.

"Vell-" He leans up against the doorway, thinking. "If there is no more enemies to fight, then I'll hang up my rifle and vait for death like any other mortal." He says with a small laugh. "It's kinda funny, really, I've been fighting so long and nov, it's over, in a moment. Ironic the var should end much like a man shot dead, a life of fighting over in a moment."

::Again, Iole has to take pause::
Sid, I'm not so sure the fighting is actually over. I'm not so sure that what we were fighting for and what we've created are the same thing. The Commitstar... frightens me. There's a hunger in his eyes that I've seen before. The kind that comes from devotion to a cause that's become a lust for power. I've seen it twice in a man and a woman, both of whom nearly took this city down with them.
::She takes the scope he gave her from her pocket::
Maybe I'm wrong, and I hope I am. But... if I'm not... I want you to use this. Use it and remember what we, Josh and Violette and... Ollie fought for. Make sure he didn't die for nothing.

Sid looks to her curiously. "You really think that? Ve all know Reynard is a frightening man, he has to be in order to have stood against the aristocracy but, to suggest that he vill become like the ones he fought... that's a hard glass to svallov."
He glances at the scope on that is now set on the table, then back to Iole. "If you are right, then that scope von't be helping any us much, but I vill. So, nov that is appears 'over', vhat are you going to do? Not much tying you back here but ghosts"

Is it really that hard? Haven't we arleady seen heroes turn into monsters?
::She moves back to the table to retrieve her hairclip, pulling her hair back using the clip to secure it::
I think for now I'll go back to a place where the demons are still demons and, good and evil are still obvious. They've got a good several hundered years before they catch up to the gray maze that we're in. But I can't stay in one place for very long. It's part of my nature. So maybe we'll see each other again one day.

::Iole nods::
Not in the bed though. Too many ghosts there. I'll be fine on the couch.
::She stares out the window::
I'm going for a walk though. Thank you for everything you've done, but right now I just need to clear my head. Don't worry I'm not going to try anything. Just need some fresh air is all. It's kind of windy out there.
::She moves toward the small coat closet and pulls out one of Oliver's black trench coats. It's a little ill fitting, and it comes all the way down to her ankles, almost brushing the floor. But it smells just like him. Almost like his arms are still around her::
Will you be alright with just you and Nyx for awhile?

((Wouldn't consider it black, more natural leather also don't forget you have the scarf)) "I believe I vill, Nyx isn't exactly a problem... if not a little unnerving." Sid jokes as he walks to the fridge and takes out a pitcher of water. "Oh, Iole, do me a favor. Don't go to the blast site, do something to try and keep your mind off the last day."

(OOC: Oh yeah, the scarf. I think we've come up with a new look for Iole in two posts)
::Iole shakes her head::
Not the last day. I know where I'm going.
::She heads out the door with a two fingered salute to Sid. She tosses Oliver's scarf around her neck as the door closes behind her. As she makes her way down the streets, not sparing a glance at those who celebrate, she can't help but remember the war torn streets the way they used to be, when she and Oliver had been two children looking at them from the rooftops. They had been downtrodden then, but in her memory they were beautiful as the last rays of the sun reflected off their rooftops and children finished up their games in the streets before night fell. In her mind, that had been what Oliver had died for. So it could be that beautiful again. She keeps that image in her mind to steel herself as she makes her way to the graveyard::

At ground zero
Standing on a raised platform of rubble and stone overlooking the digging operation, Connolly watches with quiet anxiety, Emily perched on his shoulder with him. The back of his mind is rife with thoughts of what could lay below in the oven of stone, surely nothing could of survive down there for any time, much less survive the blast itself, yet an inkling hope still exists within him.
It's been over an hour now and no sign of anything yet, when another call comes from a different area of the rubble. Many stop what they are doing and rush to see what the rabble is about. A body has just been pulled from the rubble, alive. Connolly rushes to see, finding a human male, the burnt and tattered uniform indicates a member of the Regent's Guard. His body armor must of protected him.
Medics arrive on scene and shoo the on-lookers away as they prep him for moving. Connolly and those he convinced to search elsewhere return to their digging, now with a stronger resolve that others may be alive inside the stone tomb.

::Iole isn't sure if it's smoke from the fires that still smolder above the rubble, or an eerie fog that's begun to roll over the city as she makes her way to the top of the hill in the quiet cemetary, the stone angel with her engraven book her only companion. With cold detached eyes she stares at everything her beloved had fought and died for. None of those who danced and sang and drank even knew the name of the one who had given it to them. Her eyes drift to the names etched on the stone pages of the book in the angel's outstretched hands. They were all the names of those who had lost their lives before their time, unfairly, unjustly, leaving loved ones behind. His name belongs among them. She pulls the sleeve of her coat back to free up her hand. It shifts into her scaled claw. She moves to press her first one into the book just below his mother's name. But she stops herself. If she did it like that, it would be vandalism. His name would be looked upon as something cruel and ungly. So instead she moves her hand under the book, exactly beneath Emily Tipp's name. Then in small ridges she carves it into the stone as it reads in her heart: Oliver Fray Tipp; Son, Patriot, Lover, Martyr. She laughs bitterly thinking how he would have hated that if he could see it::

::At the flat::
Radio: "Sid, come in! Sid!"
Sid, sitting at the table in the kitchen with the radio on the table before him, grudgingly grabs for it.
"Yea, vhat is it Captain? I knov about the survivors... vhat? You're kidding... you're not? Vhen?... You sure?... Hov?... Alright... s**t, shes out... I'll be right there!" Sid quickly pockets the radio and jumps from his seat, gabbing his boonie hat from the hook on the wall. "Nyx, find Iole and get to Lindblum Regional Hospital, nov!" Without even shooting her a glance, Sid charges out of the flat.

::If there's anything Nyx is good at, it's following orders. She leaps to her feet and sinks to the floor as a shadow. She emerges later at the hill behind where her mistress stands as still and emotionless as the statue::
Nyx: Miss, it's Sid.
::Iole sighs::
I told me I'd be back soon. He doesn't need to--
Nyx: He wants you at Lindblum General Hospital right away.
The hospital?.... For what?
Nyx: He didn't say.
::She thinks for a moment, and it seems she has a shred of curiosity left somewhere under all the ice::
Alright. Show me the way.

Nyx and Iole arrive at the hospital's reception area, where Connolly stands, waiting for them. He stops them from moving forward.
"So, you got the message, good. Sid is already inside, but... I'm sorry to inform you that civilians are not allowed in the hospital. Only LPA and relief workers."
Before Iole can object or say anything, Connolly emerges from his pocket a torn piece of yellow cloth. Her armband that she tore away.
"Why I think you should have this. You do know it is such a pain to do all that paper work... I really just never got around to it." He grins, devilishly. "Well, shall we?"

"You'll see."
Connolly leads her and Nyx through a pair of double doors and down a hallway, being flanked by other Red Dragoons. The longer they walk, the more tight the security gets. Taking an elevator up to the seventh floor, they are met with even more LPA security, lining the halls, all standing at attention as Connolly passes. They come a final set of double doors, guarded by two Red Dragoons, it is here Connolly stops Iole and Nyx.
"I should warn you, this isn't pretty but you must see. So Come."
Connolly opens the door, guides them down one more egg-white corridor lined with gurneys and choked with nurses and doctors. Till they come to a door with another Red Dragoon guard and a window beside it. Through the window, reveals a sight to behold.
A bed, where laying in repose, connected to ungodly machines and wrapped in white and red is a Burmecian male, the center of attention for a team of doctors and nurses. A wheeled tray nearby catches Iole attention, something upon it glistens with a golden sparkle in the light and beside that golden comb is a most familiar looking yet burned book.

::Iole doesn't speak and Nyx already knows to hang back. She shakes her head vehemently as she gets closer. The nurses and doctors pay her little mind as she moves closer. She mutters to no one in particular::
Why are you doing this to me? I just made peace with it. He can't be.
::But that possibility, for how sweet it is, those cords and injuries and healers may as well not be there, and it takes what remains of her sense not to snatch him up and fly away with him right now. She doesn't even notice that the rest of the room has gotten very quiet. She licks her dry lips, feeling her throat parch as she opens her mouth::

The entire staff in the room turns and watches with a somber tone when she speaks. One of the head doctors approaches, carrying a large file, he takes off his glasses and puts them in his breast pocket before speaking.
"You the next of kin?" He asks.
"She's close enough." Connolly states, giving the doctor a commanding stare.
"Fair enough, ma'am, please let's talk outside. My team can't work with others in here." The doctor's motions for her to follow him outside.
"Iole, do as he says." Connolly states and ushers her to follow. "You can watch through the window and look, Sid's out there."
Knowing there's no use to fight, despite her feelings, it was in the best interest of Oliver and the staff that they work uninterrupted. Once in the hall, Sid nods to Iole as Connolly and him leave for down the hall, letting the doctor and Iole talk privately.
"Ma'am, has the Captain informed you yet of the nature of the patient's..." quickly checks the paperwork in his hand. "Oliver Tipp's injuries?"
