Astaroth: We were unable to trace the hack back to its source before the LPA broke through our defenses. The former HQ has been claimed. All files that weren't destroyed are now here at the uptown office.
::Alicia keeps her blue eyes on the floor and her fists clenched at her sides, her blood red fingernails digging into her palms as she explains the aftermath of last night's battle to the Captain. She has yet to tell him that they haven't found Yami yet, but she can't do so with the other officers in the office. She decides to let "Maxwell" give him that bit of bad news if he didn't manage to find her::

::Both Alicia and the captain turn their attention to the door as Maxwell enters:: "Bad news, Beck was freed. I knew I should of stayed and took care of that rat."
"How much did you get from him?"
"Just some of his supply lines, but not enough to shut their lines down permanently."
"Damn, you're all dismissed. ::As Maxwell and Alicia go to leave:: Except you two."
::When the others leave:: "Do either of you have anything on Yami?"
"Sorry sir, but it looks like she dissapeared during the chaos. She might be in the hands of the LPA or wandering the streets. We'll keep looking for her."
"I have no choice but to have that put on hold for right now, we have bigger concerns." ::Looks to Alicia:: Forgive me Astaroth, but the others will be expecting someone to take the fall for this. Kamikaze was chosen to be the liaison to the Regent so he's needed. he thought spoke to her. Make it sound convincing. "You're dismissed Maxwell. But Miss Strauss, we still have much to discuss."

::Beneath the mask of Alicia, Astaroth grinds her teeth::

::He looks sternly at her, his hands crossed over his lips:: "I told you to make sure no word of Beck's capture was to be leaked to the press."

I still don't know how it happened. I've been too concerned with whoever was trying to hack our system. He must be more important to them than we believed if they knew of his capture immediately.

"And what is this I hear about you bringing in someone for questioning? You know all requests about that have to go through me first. Who is he?"

An informant. One I'm considering cutting ties with. He's Douglas Fenway, a man who owned an inn at the Crest near Gin Street before it was destroyed. Now he and his wife work in Club Chocobo a Gogo in the Fashion District. His information has been reliable, but the rebels don't trust him as readily as he told me.

"I'll let this slide for right now. But ::He slams his fist on the desk:: at least have the manners to keep me informed of what you're doing! This is strike one Miss Strauss. See to it there isn't a strike two. You may go now." ::They hear some people moving away from the door as she goes to leave::

Sir.
::She bows her head quickly before leaving, sure to slam the door on her way out. Fury builds in her chest like a boiling kettle. She grinds her teeth as she storms out, forcing officers to literally leap out of her way to avoid getting mowed down as she storms out of the office::
Kill them. I'll kill them all. But first I'll make them suffer.

::Some Time After Maria's Abduction:: ::In the dimly lit new office of Alicia Strauss, the IA secretary is just concluding a less than friendly phone call with her colleague Maxwell. While she does so, a young girl about twelve years of age sits quietly on the leather sofa. She's not bound in any way, but she already knows how futile it is to escape from this woman:: Astaroth: I don't really give a damn what the captain has you assigned to right now, she comes first! I want her found, and I want her found NOW! ::Then the blond secretary presses (pounds it actually) the off button on the phone on her desk. She tosses an angry glance to her captive:: Astaroth: What are you looking at?

::The girl glares back at her with those emerald green eyes. The clothes she was wearing were abit stratched from after this demon kidnapped her. Her deep blue hair messed up and out of its usual ponytail. The necklace Kerion gave her, a small silver eagle, still around her neck:: "When my uncle Kerion finds me, you'll be sorry!"

::Alicia chuckles darkly and looks back at the phone, keeping her eyes trained on it::
Astaroth: That's cute. You're in this mess because of your uncle. This will teach him to talk back to his employers.

::Alicia laughs openly now::
Astaroth: I've been called worse. Truth is, I'm no worse than your dear uncle. I'm only doing what is necessary to make my employer happy. So Maria I believe your name was? Why don't you tell me how you and the sharpshooter know each other.
::She sees Maria give her a skeptical look::
Astaroth: I'm bored. And be warned I get violent when I'm bored. I suggest you make it good while I'm waiting.

"We met when I was five. I was still sick and confined to a bed. I don't remember what they called it, all I knew was I couldn't walk after I was born." ::Her eyes closed:: "I though of nothing outside the hospital, thinking that small room was all there is." ::Her eyes then open as a smile came on her face:: "That's when I met him."
((OOC: Gonna post how they met. Would be long though. Give me a few moments to type.))

::FLASHBACK::
Maria lays back onto her hospital bed, her eyes trying to close. But her ears hear two people talking. One she reconizes as one of the doctors, the other is male and unfamiliar::
Doctor: Before you go, I have a request to make of you.
Male: What is it?
Doctor: We know of your travels and were hoping you could share some of what you've seen with the children. It's not that often we get forieners here, and some of the children are too bedridden to move.
Male: Alright.
Doctor: Good! There's one little girl in particular that I want you to talk to. Her name's Maria Anzo
Male: What's wrong with her?
Doctor: We don't know. Her disease is unlike anything we have ever encountered, we don't even know how she contracted it.
Male: What's the symptoms?
Doctor: Loss of motor function in the legs, weak motor functions in the arms and poor eyesight. Many would say she'll never walk in her life.
Male: I'll talk to her.
Doctor: Great! She's right through this door.
::Maria quickly moves her head back and pretends she didn't hear anything::
Doctor: Maria? I brought someone to talk to you. ::Whispers to the male:: She's a little shy meeting new people.
::The man nods before walking to her bedside. She now has a good look at the owner of the other voice. His short messy brown hair and eyepatch makes him look abit terrifiying to her::
Male: ::He gently smiles at her:: I'm not here to hurt you. I heard you're stuck in bed. ::Sees her nod:: Well, there's a whole world outside this hospital.
Maria: There is?
Male: ::Nods:: And I would be glad to tell you about it, if you want to know about it that is?
::He sees her nod enthusiatisicly and couldn't help but chuckle. He tells her of many different places, from the advance city of Esthar, to the ruined city of Zanarkand. After a few hours::
Male: Well, that's enough for today. ::Gets up:: I got to be going. ::Turns and walks to the door::
Maria: Wait! ::He turns around:: Will you come back and visit?
::The guy smiles and nods at her::
Male: By the way, the name's Kerion.
::Months later::
Kerion: Doc, now that I think about it, I haven't seen Maria's parents since I started visiting her.
Doctor: Well... Her parents abandoned her when they learned about her disease. Poor thing been alone her whole life.
::He sees Kerion thinking::
Kerion: How much would it take to fund research for a vaccine to her disease?
Doctor: It would take a considerible amount to have that research started and continued.
Kerion: I see... :Looks to the doctor: I'll fund it.
Doctor: You sure?
Kerion: I might not look like it, but I am well off in terms of money. I also want to know if its possible to have adoption papers written up for her?
Doctor: You mean?
Kerion: Yes, I want to adopt Maria. I want her to truely see what the world looks like rather than have her listen about it.
Doctor: Right away! But we need her consent first.
::Kerion smiles as he walks into her room, Maria perks up seeing him enter::
Maria: Kerion!
Kerion: How you doing kiddo? ::He ruffled her hair as he sat down:: Maria, there's something I want to ask you. ::Sees her nod:: What would you say if I became your father?
Maria: My father?
::Kerion nods to her question. She squeels and hugs him, tears forming in her eyes::
Kerion: But I can't take you with me just yet. ::He pulls out a necklace, a small silver eagle:: Until that disease of yours is cured, you'll always be confined to a bed. ::He puts the necklace around her neck:: But I promise that I'll help find a cure for it. I'll still come back to check up on you until that day.
Maria: ::Lets him go:: Promise?
Kerion: I promise. ::He kisses the top of her forehead before she lays back and sleeps::

::Alicia listens with keen interest to Maria's tale::
Astaroth: Well from the looks of things he must have found the cure. You look healthy enough. Amazing the lengths that you humans go to in order to protect your young. Even some of my kind have been stirred by children. Have you ever heard the story of the Witch's Surrogate? I'd think you would have. The Sharpshooter met her a few years ago during the Autumn Harvest.

::Alicia smiles wickedly::
Astaroth: You may still get your chance. She's here in the city.
::And I've marked her for death she thinks to herself. Though she doesn't have much faith in Kerion's ability to kill her. He's certainly skilled enough, but after hearing Maria's story, she knows very well that Kerion will never be able to kill someone else's little girl, least of all one he was friends with. But it's for the better she supposes. Yami would never forgive her if she took away her chance to "play" with the shapeshifter. She frowns at the phone again::
Astaroth: What is taking him so long? How hard could she possibly be to find?!
