::Meanwhile on the balcony, just as Iole is about to take off, her mirror begins to vibrate excessively::
Iole, you there? Is Oliver with you?

Lillith? Again? This is getting ridiculous. We're fine. Ollie's with me, but he's downstairs right now. And need I remind you, he has his own mirror. You want to talk to somebody, talk to Kenny. He's been worried sick about you. Look this isn't the best time. We're kind of in the middle of something.

::Lillith apparently ignores Iole's plea and continues speaking::
No I couldn't talk to Kenny about this. I really needed to talk to you. You're the only one I can think of who would know about this. This is going to sound very strange, but what do you know about Gateways, Like the one you jumped through?

Gateways? What's with this question all of a sudden?
::But she knows Lillith well enough to know that she isn't one to ask random questions. This must be important::
Well it doesn't really work for anyone, but I was able to use the Gateway that Auntie came through. Nyx knows a lot about it, so she knew how to get back to where my Auntie came from. You know, Freya. We wound up in the Deadwood where the Dark Elves live. They're not the friendliest crowd. They worship Jezebel. But they're kind to me because I'm a child. And they seem to trust Nyx because she kind of looks like them with her white hair. But we try not to stay there a whole lot.

Alright, but what about the one Nata... you're Auntie and Nyx built in Balamb.
::She seems to swallow and hesitate on this next part::
The one she pushed August through?

::Iole shudders::
That one leads further North, to the Wastelands. Nothing there but storms and demons. They say there was some kind of kingdom that stood there once, but it's a dead region now except for those monsters. Even the Dark Elves are nervous about going in there. I think August would have been torn to shreds the second he was on the other side. Why do you ask?

::Iole can almost see it in Lillith's face as the pieces click in her brain::
Anyone else would have been killed. But August knows how to control demons. He'd know enough to stay safe in a place like that. Maybe he used them to find another gate, or made them build one for him. Why didn't I see this sooner?

::A cold shiver runs down Iole's spine. Though she had only caught glimpses of the man, his odd and misplaced smile was clear as day to her now. She had always sensed something off about him, and wasn't too eager to see him again::
What are you saying? You mean August is back? Did you see him?

::Lillith sighs and runs a hand through her hair, brushing her long bangs out of her face::
We... we think he might be the Harvester. Don't do anything stupid. We're coming back to Lindblum as soon as we get our things from Dali. We'll explain everything then. In the meantime, stay put and keep an eye on Oliver.
::Before Iole can argue, the mirror goes blank::

Back downstairs, Takano shrieks her joy and almost blasts out Kenny's eardrums before she throws her arms around him tightly and kisses him on the cheek. "Oh Lilly was right about you, you really are perfect! I promise I'll be as good as gold and help you out any way I can. You won't even know I'm here, I promise." She holds up three fingers in front of him. "Scout's Honor."

But I...
::Iole growls when the mirror goes blank::
No one can ever call me on this thing just to say hi. It's always a life-or-death thing.
::She stuffs it back into her pocket and heads back down the stairs. She wanted to go out and look for Adrian, but she doesn't have the slightest idea where to start out there in that mess. And if August really is back, she really doesn't want to be wandering out there on her own, whether or not he's the one behind the attacks. She needs to talk to Kenny. He'll know what to do::
Kenny, are you still... what the hell?! Takano, get off of him! I'm gone for two seconds and you're all over him. For the last time, he's taken! Kenny, I kind of need to talk to you ::looks resentfully at the nurse:: alone.

:Kenny saw that Iole had returned and felt a bit embarrased again after Takano kissed him on the cheek earlier on. He noticed Iole looked trouble:
"What is it you want to tell me sis?"

::Iole tugs Kenny by the hand and takes him with her into the hallway, away from the Nurse::
Lillith just talked to me. She wanted to ask me about the gateways. She said they have a pretty good idea of who the Harvester is.

Oliver peeks from behind a cracked door as Iole and Kenny talk in the hall, listening in to their conversation. "Was tis about now...?"

Kenny, I'm not sure if you ever really met this guy, but you lived in the same house for awhile with Auntie. Do you remember August? Tall skinny guy with glasses and a bad habit of talking to himself? Always carried a dagger around, helped Auntie during the war?

::Iole sighs::
Then you might not like this. Lillith and the others went to his old home to see if their hunch was right. They think he might be the Autumn Harvester.

A light turns on in Oliver's head, hearing the name "August", remembering what Adrian said, and putting it all together with the mention of the Harvester. A anger brews itself deep inside his gut, anxiety and a sense of purpose overpower him that he feels he must do on his own. The others served their purpose to get him closer to the name of his mother's murderer, now with it, he had all he needed. Silently, he closes the door he was listening behind and makes for the window across the room. He flings it open, the cold hitting him in the face like a wall. He hoists himself up and jumps out the window, his Burmecian body landing perfectly in the snow on the street below.
Once in the street, Oliver draws the flimsy shank he's been saving for this moment. These last few months he's been waiting for this day with anticipation and fear. With haste and urgency, Oliver runs through the battlefield of the streets to that all to familiar spot in the heart of the Crest where he will finally have his revenge.

::Iole gets a puzzled look on her face::
Kenny, did you hear something?
::It's when she hears the soft thud of little feet hitting the snow that she realizes her slip::
Oh hell! Ollie heard me! Kenny come on, we need to catch him before he does something stupid!
::She grabs him by the hand and the two of them leap from the window and into the raging inferno that is now the streets of Lindblum. She catches the pawprints in the snow just as they're about to covered over, and takes off in that direction with Kenny in tow::

The site of the "Good Doctor's" clinic comes into view as Oliver rounds another corner. It seems to have remained untouched by the rioting in the streets. To his surprise someone's already there. A sick sensation twists in the boy's stomach when he realizes that it's the same shadowy shape that he and the others had seen leap from Lillith's bedroom window the night she had been attacked. The same form they had chased. But in the light of the fires that rage on every avenue in Lindblum, the glasses he wears on his face are visible, as is the outline of a sneer when he catches sight of Oliver.
"Oliver, it's good to see you. Awfully late for a social visit isn't it? Perhaps you needed something?"
